Direct Family Service is designed to help improve the quality of family life by providing fast and flexible assistance to families with challenging young children. Catering for families from diverse backgrounds, this service offers a fresh, sensitive and honest approach to those issues requiring effective action.

Direct Family Service operates at three levels:

  • To prevent young people from entering the care system.
  • To provide essential support for families with children in the care system
  • To assist care leavers and their families adjust to life outside the care system.

Direct Family Service consists of a multi-disciplinary team drawn from a variety of social welfare backgrounds. This makes us ideally placed to better understand and respond appropriately to individual family needs.

Working in partnership with local authority social services and education departments, our service has typically been demanded in the following situations where a thorough professional response has been required:

  • Children assessed as at risk or on the at risk register
  • Families in crisis needing support at home to prevent relationships breaking down
  • School non-attendance by young people leading to pressures within the family
  • Behaviour by individual young people placing themselves and others at risk.
  • Early intervention services where short-term, intensive support at the right time will prevent the need for accommodation.

In addition, Direct Family Service provides support to:

  • Foster carers and adoptive families
  • Families involved in mental health services
  • Children with disabilities.

By working alongside families in their own home, Direct Family Service provides the quality and level of support needed to ensure children in these families enjoy life’s opportunities.
